How to Take Care of Your Dental Filling

Posted .

Despite your efforts, you may develop tooth decay. If this happens, Dr. Mark Berard may recommend a dental filling in Holland, Michigan. A dental filling can correct and restore a tooth that has decay, thus helping you regain ideal oral health.

At our office, we provide tooth-colored dental fillings. To place a filling, our dentist will first numb the area around the tooth. The decayed area of the tooth is then removed and the area is checked to ensure that all damaged tooth structure has been taken out. Our dentist will then clean the area of debris and bacteria. The filling material is then placed one layer at a time. As each layer is placed, it is cured with a special light. When the layering is complete, Dr. Mark Berard will shape the material, remove any excess, and polish the final filling.

Practice good oral hygiene to keep your dental filling in good shape. Visit our office at least twice a year for a professional teeth cleaning, brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, and floss at least once a day. If you suspect that your dental filling is cracked or that it no longer fits as tightly as it should, contact our office for an appointment. We will take dental X-rays to determine the best course of action, which may be to place a new dental filling.
