Dentures are often an effective way to replace the function of your missing or compromised teeth. If you suffered from periodontal health problems in the past, you might have lost some bone structure in your mouth. As time goes on, you might gradually start to experience symptoms of oral atrophy.
As this starts to happen, you might notice your dentures feeling a little loose in your mouth. Early on, you might be able to counter the effects of oral atrophy by applying some denture adhesive. This will help to lock your dentures firmly in your mouth. This can also help block out food particles from invading the base of the dentures when you eat.
If you do have a little stray food material work its way in, you will need to rinse it away. Make sure your dentures are completely clear of old denture adhesive before drying the base with a clean paper towel. You can then apply a fresh bead of denture adhesive.
You will also need to you rinse and lightly brush your dentures when you take them out at night. This will provide you with clean surface to reapply fresh denture adhesive the next morning.
While you’re shopping denture adhesive, you should look for the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. This small logo printed on the package indicates that the ADA has researched and tested the product for safe oral use.
